Can you describe in a few sentences what your job involves?
Content design is about making sure the products we build serve the needs and tasks of their users.
On website projects we'll define site structure and content requirements, and work with clients to create compelling, clear, and accessible content.
We're involved in user research, journey mapping and usability testing. We work closely with user researchers, designers and developers to build products that work for users.
What career path did you take to get here?
I've always loved writing and sharing information. I started my career as a journalist, working as a web editor at a newspaper back home in New Zealand.
I've found a lot of my journalism skills have been super useful as a content designer – things like conducting interviews, structuring pieces of content, and judging the value of information.
What challenges you most in your role?
Every project is different, and every project needs a fresh approach. There's no opportunity to rest on my laurels – I need to be constantly learning and adapting how I work to do what's right for the project.
What do you enjoy most about life at Storm?
Storm's a super fun place to work. In the pre-Covid era, that meant things like the summer day out, foosball and table tennis tournaments, end of month drinks, and Halloween and Christmas parties.
That's along with many impromptu trips to the pub, Friday lunches, or just chats around the office.
It's a friendly place full of welcoming, clever, and very funny people.
Do you have any hidden talents or interesting hobbies?
I love making experimental music using synthesisers, electroacoustic equipment, guitars, and field recordings. I spend a lot of time walking around collecting sounds on a digital recorder.
