Can you describe in a few sentences what your job involves?
I work with frontend and backend developers to help identify potential product faults. The key is to catch them as early as possible, by creating and working through test plans and exploratory testing. Then, issues are documented and reported back to developers so that they can handle bugs.
During my time as an associate, the main aim is to learn as much as possible. I've had opportunities to do so both through functional testing and more generally. For instance, by getting involved with automation testing, non-functional testing, and accessibility testing.
What's been your most rewarding project?
I’ve enjoy working across various projects at Storm. I’ve enjoyed working to support automation and functional testing for a particular client in the healthcare sector.
What challenges you most in your role?
I have a software engineering degree, and whilst testing is in a similar field, test engineers take a totally different approach. With this, there is a lot to learn. I appreciate the opportunity Storm has given me to learn by doing. The team is happy to answer any questions I have, which has been great!
What makes you excited to come to work?
I’ve enjoyed speaking with people from all different aspects of the company. Through this, I've learned more about Storm's process and how teams collaborate. As well as this, every day my work is a little bit different because of the variety of projects I get to work on.
What career path did you take to get here?
I studied software engineering at Edinburgh Napier University, graduating in July of 2022. I found Storm through our University careers website. I got excited at by thought of working here as I researched the agency, and spoke with people from Storm in interviews.
How do you find the work-life balance at Storm?
The flexibility of hybrid working has been great for me. It was especially useful over the Christmas period. It allowed me to work from home while in a different town, so I could spend more time with my family.
What do you enjoy most about life at Storm?
The people. Although many people continue to work from home, gatherings like the summer day out allow the team to get together.
How have you grown at Storm?
At Storm, learning opportunities come in different forms. I have done live project shadowing, self-directed study, and industry-recognised training courses.
In my time as an associate, I will work on three different aspects of testing over 18 months. I’m looking forward to learning as much as I can in these different areas of testing.
Do you have any hidden talents or interesting hobbies?
I have played guitar from a young age and have continued to do so sporadically since then. But I’m not the type you’ll find playing Wonderwall around a campfire!
