As a lead infrastructure engineer, you’ll be responsible for provisioning, building and supporting cloud infrastructure for Storm and our customers. You’ll be directly involved in engaging with customers to share best practices around cloud adoption, migrations and deployments.

You’ll also help out with our internal IT needs, supporting and providing efficiencies for end-user productivity. Working in a cross-functional team, the role requires good organisation and an open and collaborative approach, focused on bringing delight to both our staff and our customers.

About you

You’ll have a wide range of experience in IT and cloud infrastructure with a deep knowledge of Microsoft Azure, infrastructure-as-code and automation fundamentals.

You’ll have knowledge and experience with:

  • Microsoft Azure cloud services
  • Active Directory and Azure AD
  • Group policy
  • Network infrastructure (TCP-IP/DNS/Firewalls/VLANs)
  • PowerShell scripting
  • ARM/Terraform templating
  • Windows server (2013, 2016 & 2019)

You’ll be able to write templates, automations, programs or scripts to deliver cloud native software and infrastructure. This could include:

  • source control systems like Git
  • automation and provisioning within cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure
  • using tools such as ARM templates, Terraform, PowerShell, automation runbooks, Azure DevOps (Visual Studio Team Services) to build, deploy and manage infrastructure
  • a ‘secure by default’ mindset in all work you do, following guidelines and practices to improve the security
  • using a modern standard approach to your work

You’ll also need to be:

What you'll do

Working in a cross-functional team of ITOps engineers, developers and testers, you’ll be responsible for managing the provision of infrastructure services and provide expertise to design and develop solutions for infrastructure services.

You’ll have a range of responsibilities and opportunities to learn. You will:

  • oversee infrastructure activities in programmes and projects
  • assess requirements and design solutions and plans for infrastructure deployments and migrations to cloud
  • work with technical leads and test leads to translate architectural designs into operations, and support delivery teams in operationalising the designs
  • provide skills and experience in building, deploying and migrating IT infrastructure to cloud using best practice tools and techniques
  • use scripting and coding skills to build and deploy infrastructure
  • support the development of scripting and coding skills with other ITOps specialists
  • support the rest of the delivery teams with infrastructure knowledge, attending review meetings as required
  • make sure systems and services are available and running optimally
  • identify new IT infrastructure provisioning techniques and tools for review
  • provide hosting estimates and assist customers with cloud-based enquiries


You will be working at home for the moment, and will be provided with a laptop etc. to enable you to interact with clients and colleagues alike plus access to tools such as Slack and Teams. You’ll be able to meet key members of each team through an online induction programme and the wider team through virtual coffees/donuts. We encourage video calls and regularly share home working tips. In more normal circumstances you’ll be working from our lovely offices in Leith, and meeting clients across Scotland and further afield.
